Today’s case takes place in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, Australia. Specifically, in Brookfield, a suburb of sprawling acreage properties bordered by creeks and bushland reserve. Brookfield is very proper and refined; it is a place for the wealthy, and despite being just 14 kilometres / 8.7 miles from Brisbane’s bustling Central Business District, Brookfield had a rural charm about it.
In the heart of this respectable suburb lived the Baden-Clay’s. Husband and wife Gerard and Allison Baden-Clay, and their 3 young daughters. There home, a cute blue and white weatherboard cottage, was within walking distance of the quaint Brookfield General Store, the Brookfield Showgrounds, and the local primary school where Allison taught ballet once a week. Gerard sold luxury properties in the suburb, lead the local chamber of commerce, and gave presentations on success to high school students.
Brookfield is filled with pretty tree-lined streets that Allison loved to stroll down. And it was during one of these strolls that the 43-year-old mother supposedly vanished.
From the outside, the Baden-Clay’s had it all, the idyllic white-picket-fence-life that most people dream of having. But during the search for Allison and the investigation into her disappearance, many things emerged – secrets, affairs, financial troubles, and eventually, Allison herself. It turns out Allison and her “affluent” husband were living a life that was far from idyllic. The public was enthralled, and the media had a gold mine of details…
